PRIVATE & SMALL GROUP LESSONS
The instructors at Smith are dedicated to helping you improve your game. They will help you determine what course you need to take to succeed in reaching your goals this summer and beyond. Their goal is to provide you with the best instruction, whether you are new to the game or you've been playing for a number of years.
H. Smith Richardson's Professional Staff are available to teach seven days a week during the golf season. We encourage all golfers, new and experienced, to take advantage of the learning opportunities offered at "Smith" all season long. Please call the teaching professionals below to schedule a lesson.

ADULT SPRING CLINICS Ages 18+
These clinics are for golfers who have experience and are interested in priming their swings for the season of golf ahead. Instructors, Mark Farrell, Director of Instruction and Daniel Kleps will cover the all-important fundamentals and get you ready and swinging with old friends and new friends alike. Each session will focus on a different aspect of the game with lessons being held either at the Driving Range or the Putting Green. PROFESSIONAL STAFF -
Jim Alexander, Head PGA Professional
Jim is entering his 8th year as the Head PGA Professional/General Manager at H. Smith Richardson Golf Course and the Carl Dickman Par 3. He turned professional in 1997 and was elected to PGA membership in 2001. Prior to coming to Fairfield, Jim was the Head PGA Professional at Candlewood Valley Golf Course in New Milford, CT for 4 years. Jim maintains a limited teaching schedule and specializes in teaching intermediate to advanced golfers.
Mark Farrell, PGA
Mark was elected to PGA membership in 2012 and is the Director of Instruction at H. Smith Richardson G C. He has extensive experience teaching all range of golfers from the very young to those playing their whole life. Whether you wish to lower your handicap, make your High School team, compete at a national level or are picking up the clubs for the first time, Mark’s approach is easily understood and simple to apply. Mark has competed in 10 USGA and R&A National Championships. A three time Connecticut player of the Year, Mark, has won a number of golf tournaments and has played competitively throughout the United States and Europe.
Daniel Kleps, PGA
Daniel is entering his 10th year working at Smith Richardson G.C. He turned professional in 2008 and was elected to PGA membership in 2012. He graduated from the Coastal Carolina University PGA/PGM program as well as Fairfield Prep. Daniel has played competitively at the high school, collegiate, and professional levels. Daniel is skilled in teaching golfers of all playing abilities especially those who are new to the game.
